The Giving Nation Challenge is a classroom-based active learning programme teaching young people in Britain the importance, role and impact of the Third Sector through its social enterprise initiative. The programme which challenges classes across an entire year group to create a short-lived charity or social enterprise over a 6-week timetable and then compete with their fellow classes for the hearts, minds and donations of the school community is breaking into new territory with the added incentive of corporate volunteers in the classroom. The Challenge, which now involves over 415 secondary schools in England, is supported by the Cabinet Office. The Challenge is not only provided free to schools, but also provides £50 start-up capital to all participating classes along with online tools and classroom resources.
